Telangana issue: JAC warns of strike from all sections

The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) today threatened a strike from all sections of society from August 1, if the Centre failed to take steps for formation of separate Telangana by then.

The leaders of JAC, comprising TRS, BJP and several people's organisations like government employees, met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and informed him about their decision.

"The Chief Minister said he is neither supportive nor against the Telangana demand and that there is nothing in his hands," JAC Convener M. Kodandaram told reporters.

He said all sections of the society in Telangana, like employees and teachers, would participate in the proposed strike.

The government employees unions in Telangana had served a notice on the Andhra Pradesh government yesterday stating that they would strike work after August one.

The JAC, Telangana leaders in major parties like Congress, TDP and others have threatened to intensify the separate statehood agitation from August.

As many as 100 MLAs, 15 MPs from Telangana have quit their posts en masse in support of the separate statehood agitation earlier this month
